Occurred December 23, 2014.

(UPDATED -- See below)

Three young men were in a Walmart store in Clarksdale, Mississippi, when they got into an argument with four other young men.

The argument spilled out into the parking lot, and the three men got into a vehicle.  That's when the other men pulled out a gun and shot the three in the car, then fled.

One of the three victims, aged 23, died from multiple gunshots at the scene.  The other two, ages 19 and 20, were wounded and taken to a hospital.

From an article:
Clarksdale Police said a 23-year-old Black man was shot multiple times in his upper torso and died from his injuries.

A 19-year-old Black male was shot in the neck and another Black male, age 20, was shot in the back, police said.

Both victims were taken to an area hospital. Their conditions are unknown. A witness told FOX13 News his cousin and two other passengers were sitting in the vehicle and another driver approached their vehicle. A gunman got out and shot the 23-year-old, who was a passenger in the back seat and then shot his 20-year-old cousin in the neck, who was sitting in the driver's seat. The 19-year-old who was sitting in the front passenger seat was then shot in the back.

Police said it appeared to be some type of confrontation inside the Walmart between the victims and four young Black male subjects. The shooting occurred once the victims were out in the parking lot.

Police said it appears to be a targeted shooting and not a random shooting.

There is no suspect information and the shooting remains under investigation.
From another article:

Investigators worked overnight to find the people who opened fire just two days before Christmas
"It's the wrong time for that. Within two days of the birth of Jesus Christ, and people still killing each other," said James Parks.
Investigators say an argument broke out inside the store, spilling over into the parking lot where several shots were fired.
"Could have hit anybody. Makes me want to get in my car and leave," Parks added.
Police say Tuesday's shooting was targeted. They're searching for three or four men who drove off in a dark colored SUV.
Nancy Bailey added, "You're kind of afraid for your life trying to come out and do what you need to do for the holidays. That's scary."

Realistic-looking BB guns stolen by gang members from Mississippi Walmart

Occurred December 17, 2013.

Five boys, who may be gang members, entered a Walmart store in Holly Springs, Mississippi, and stole five realistic-looking BB guns.

According to police, such guns are often used by gangs in the area to commit crimes, since they cannot easily be distinguished from real guns.

From an article:
"These boys went into Walmart and they stole ... It was five of these stolen and they all got one," said Holly Springs Police Chief William Hollowell.
Hollowell is concerned about teens and gangs using BB guns to commit crimes.
"It looks like a gun, but it's not a real gun ... The people in the store think it's a real gun," said Hollowell.
The guns look so similar that most consumers cannot tell what is real and what is fake.
"We keep taking these guns from kids. If there's an incident where somebody is shot over these things that would just be a terrible thing to happen," said Hollowell.
Volunteer high school football Coach Danny Warren said many of the kids play with them for a joke.
"Some people don't take it as a joke. It'd more considered dangerous. Parents need to stop and talk to them," he said....
Hollowell said he does not want to see anymore young men die or lives ruined.
"If a police officer has to shoot someone that could very well bed his career," said Hollowell.
Chief Hollowell asked the local Walmart to put the BB guns in the same cases with the real guns they have in stock.

Sounds like a good idea, but here's a better one:  stop selling them.

There is no good reason for BB and pellet guns to look real, and they are routinely used to commit crimes, threaten, or injure, including at Walmart stores.

Walmart employee with concealed weapon in Mississippi fires shots at girlfriend in parking lot

Occurred December 8, 2013.

A Walmart employee, Johnny Earl Allen, 20, was retrieving shopping carts in the parking lot of his store in Gulfport, Mississippi, when his ex-girlfriend pulled into the parking lot with friends.  He then pulled out a handgun that he had had concealed on his body, while working, and opened fire on her car.

Luckily, no one was injured.

From an article:
Johnny Earl Allen, 20, of Gulfport, was retrieving shopping carts at the store on U.S. 49 when he saw them driving toward the building and pulled out a gun and began firing, McDaniel said.
"We believe he had the gun on his person while he was at work," he said.
No one was injured.
Investigators believe Allen ran from the scene and got in a gold Chevrolet Blazer.
Police said they found Allen late Sunday night and arrested him on a charge of aggravated domestic assault and three counts of aggravated assault.
"This does not mean Christmas shoppers are in danger," McDaniel said. "This was not a random shooting. It was domestic-related."

Drug-related shooting in Mississippi Walmart Parking Lot

Occurred September 5, 2013.

A shooting occurred in the parking lot of a Walmart in Meridian, Mississippi, between gang members, over a drug deal.  One man was wounded and taken to the hospital.

A relative of the victim spoke out, and brought information to the local police, but the police have refused to use the information to investigate, according to him.

From an article and news video:
The day of the shooting, he called the detective with information. He said the detective called him back the first time, but when he tried to continue to contact police as he acquired more detailed and accurate information, but the process became frustrating.
"I tried to call the police department and talk to a detective. It's an automated system, and if you don't hit the right button, it'll hang up on you," he said. "I got upset and went to the police department."
After a long wait, he said he was only able to speak to someone after saying a few choice words and getting up to leave. The next time he had more information on the shooter, his calls were never returned. He said to his knowledge, nothing has been done with the information he provided.
"The only thing I didn't do was bring the gentleman down to the police department in my vehicle," said the relative.
His relative says the victim was involved in gang-related activity, and the shooting occurred over a drug deal in the Highway 19 Walmart parking lot. He's concerned the police department is not giving the case much priority since it's a gang related crime, but he's worried if they don't future retaliation could hurt some other innocent bystander.
