FBI arrest of drug-dealing gang member leads to fatal shooting at Maryland Sam's Club store

Occurred April 11, 2014.

(UPDATED -- See below)

FBI went to arrest Jameel Kareem Ofurum Harrison, 34, in the parking lot of a Sam's Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, for drug offenses.  Harrison was a gang member with a long rap sheet.

When Harrison attempted to run over the officers, they opened fire, hitting him 19 times and killing him.

An investigation cleared the FBI agents of wrongdoing.

From an article:
In the Owings Mills shooting, the agents from the FBI's Baltimore field office, along with other law enforcement personnel, were wearing vests that identified them as law enforcement. They got out of their cars, surrounded Harrison's car, and told him to raise his hands and get out of the car.
One officer pulled his Chevrolet Uplander minivan in front of Harrison's 2013 Infiniti FX37, boxing him in. The officer got out and walked up to the front of Harrison's car; with his weapon drawn, he identified himself as a police officer and ordered Harrison to get out of the car. Another agent walked up to Harrison's driver-side door, and others also approached the vehicle and repeated similar commands.
The report says Harrison started to drop his hands "and a short time after that, the vehicle was driving in reverse," striking the car behind him. ...

The report says Harrison "put the vehicle in reverse, accelerated past two witness vehicles, then struck a third witness vehicle. At that point the driver made a movement that placed three agents in fear of death or injury, causing them to discharge their weapons," according to the Baltimore County Police Department's investigative report, which was reviewed by the state's attorney's office.
Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene.

Man with BB gun threatens Maryland Walmart worker

Occurred January 21, 2014.

A man entered a Walmart store in Laurel, Maryland, and attempted to return an electronic tablet.  When he was refused, because he didn't have a receipt, he became angry and pulled out what appeared to be a "machine gun" and threatened to shoot the worker.  When she screamed, he ran away.

He was soon caught and arrested.  The gun turned out to be a realistic-looking BB gun.

From an article:
A woman working at the customer service counter told police Iqbal approached the counter and attempted to return a used electronic tablet device, but his request was refused as he was unable to provide a receipt. He then took a pair of headphones off of his head and requested to return them as well. His request was again denied because he didn’t have a receipt.
That’s when things turned worse.
Police say Iqbal placed a backpack on the counter, took out a black sub-compact machine gun, later identified as the BB gun, and pointed it at the employee. He demanded that money be returned to him. When the Wal-Mart employee yelled, Iqbal fled through the front door without getting any money.
Patrol officers found him on the side of the Wal-Mart walking away from the store. He was taken into custody without incident and positively identified by Wal-Mart employees as the person who attempted the robbery.
The BB gun was recovered in the suspect’s backpack.

Robber at Maryland Walmart shoots employee

Crime scene at Laurel Walmart
Occurred November 14, 2012.

A man robbed the local Walmart store in Laurel, Maryland, then took a 28-year old store employee outside, shot him once in the chest, then fled, lighting a car on fire after ditching it.  The employee was taken to the hospital and treated.

From an article:
Authorities say the gunman approached the employee inside the store and demanded he turn over money.
After the employee complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of money, the gunman forced him outside and shot him in the parking lot before fleeing the scene in a dark colored van.
The 28-year-old was shot in the upper body and was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators say that while they were at the scene, a vehicle was found fully engulfed in flames nearby. Officers say the vehicle may have been used by the suspect to flee.
The suspect is described as a white male, wearing a dark mask, black pants, a black jacket and a gray or white sweatshirt with a hood.
Ashley Hardie, spokeswoman for Walmart, called the shooting a senseless act of violence and said the store is working with the Laurel Police Department to identify the suspect.
"We take the safety of our associates and customers very seriously and will continue to work with police to provide a safe and secure environment," said Hardie in a statement given to FOX 5.
